VISUAL IDENTITY · MOTION DESIGN · BROADCAST GRAPHICS

Trade News was an AFL trade-period series for Nine News, bringing daily updates, analysis and commentary into one visual package.

I designed the logo, motion graphics
and on-air graphics, then adapted the identity for Nine.com.au.

THE CHALLENGE

Trade stories changed throughout the day, so the graphics needed to carry new information without losing their identity. They also had to feel clearly connected to both AFL coverage and Nine News.

A distinct identity for fast-moving AFL coverage

THE APPROACH

Football cues within the
Nine News brand

I developed the logo within Nine’s established branding, drawing on the scale and energy of broadcast sports graphics. I retained the red, white and blue of Nine News and built the package within a larger-than-life 3D environment. Stadium imagery established the AFL context, while the control-room setting connected the package to live news production.

Connecting sport and live news

The opening graphic introduced Trade News over stadium and control-room backgrounds, bringing the AFL and newsroom elements of the series together.

The same identity was applied across the supporting graphics to make the segment immediately recognisable.

Built for live updates

Trade News graphics used during Nine News at 4pm Melbourne.

During the 4 pm bulletin, I worked with producers and editorial teams as trade stories changed. I built editable Viz Pilot graphics so new information could be updated without losing the Trade News identity.

Extending the identity online

I adapted the visual identity for Nine.com.au, where Trade News videos were published throughout the trade period. Using the same logo and broadcast styling connected the online updates to the television coverage.
